Special Note for adopters outside of Maine

We are happy to accept adopters from outside of the state of Maine where no travel restrictions exist.

KITTENS

Kittens do not live at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting a kitten, please submit our online kitten adoption application or email our kitten adoption team.

For the health and safety of our cats and kittens, they are adopted to indoor-only homes.

All of our cats are spayed or neutered, current on rabies and distemper vaccines, and tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) prior to going to their new home. HART provides a 7-day health guarantee.

Please be prepared to take your cat home with you the day of your appointment. Please be aware that all HART cats must leave the shelter or adoption location in a carrier.  Cardboard carriers are not permitted to be used.  We occasionally have some for sale at the shelter.

After Adopting

Many veterinarian offices offer a free or reduced cost post-adoption well-pet visit for animals adopted from local shelters. Please contact your veterinarian for specifics.

We want every adoption to be for life, but sometimes situations change. Whether the adoption happened days, weeks, or years ago, if you can no longer keep your HART cat, we require that the cat or kitten is returned to us and is not sold or rehomed.
