What does a HART volunteer do?

Cat Caregivers

  • Clean cat rooms, lobby areas, kitchen, supply room, & Medical Room 

  • Feed cats

  • Clean, dry and put away laundry & dishes

  • Sweep and mop general shelter floors

 

Adult Cat Adoption Team

  • Prepare for and conduct Open House tours

  • Conduct tours by appointment

  • Process adoptions

 

Medical Team

  • Administer medications to cats

  • Transport cats to and from vet appointments

  • Feeding cats in the evening hours (starting at 5 PM
    typically)

  • Doing "Rounds" - Work with our Medical manager to
    provide maintenance care to our resident cats which
    includes weighing, clipping nails, brushing/combing
    and cleaning brushes/utensils, and other duties.

Other In-Shelter Volunteer Opportunities

  • Intake Coordinator

  • Reception/Administrative work

    • Answering phones

    • Filing

    • Data Entry

    • Scanning

  • ​Work with our Behavior Coordinator to help our undersocialized cats

  • Our shelter is currently not open for casual volunteers such as those who would like to come to play with our other resident cats.  We will announce when this program reopens.

 

Various fundraising activities -
  new ideas always welcome!

  • Write grants

  • Volunteer at our Yard Sale

  • Lead or work at other major fundraisers

  • Bake for sales

  • Make crafts for craft sales

Opportunities for those with a car

  • Pickup and deliver food and various supplies to shelter

  • Transport cats from our rescue partners to HART (pick ups in Bangor, Rochester, NH or other areas)
